The following policies govern irrigation service connections and customer responsibilities within the Benchland Water District.
A valid User Agreement between the customer and Benchland Water District must be completed before irrigation service can be utilized. Agreements are mailed to homeowners upon notification of purchase and are also available at the District Office.
Each separate property receiving service must have a District Service Line extended to the property. In many cases, a larger service line is brought to the property line and then extended separately to each individual property owner.
The size of the service line is determined by the District based on the type of service and the acreage to be irrigated.
Property owners are responsible for connecting the District service line to their private irrigation system and for installing any valves necessary to control water flow beyond the point of connection.
Important: District valves, typically located in the park strip, are not to be used by property owners as the routine method of turning irrigation water on or off. These valves may serve multiple properties.
District personnel will turn District-owned valves on or off at the customer's request at no charge. Customers who operate a District valve themselves are responsible for any costs associated with repair or replacement if damage occurs.
Pressurized irrigation systems connected to the Benchland Water District system may not be connected to:
Violation Notice: Any unauthorized cross-connection will result in termination of service and cancellation of the user's contract with Benchland Water District.
Each separately owned property is required to contract for its own District service connection.
Individuals or entities using pressurized irrigation water in a prohibited manner may be prosecuted for theft and may be required to compensate Benchland Water District for the unauthorized use of water.
Authorized users who allow another person or entity to use irrigation water through their service connection in violation of District policy may have their irrigation service terminated and their contract cancelled.
Compliance with District connection policies helps ensure fair and reliable irrigation service for all users.
