Information about Benchland Water District’s New Reservoir “A”.
The Feasibility Report dated March 1968 projected two reservoirs within the District’s northern boundary. Reservoir A-1 and Reservoir A-2 were never built due to revenue shortfalls and landowner refusal to sell property to the District.
In 2005, District Manager Aaron F. Richards contacted District Engineers, J-U-B Engineers, Inc., to prepare preliminary engineering and construction costs for the New Reservoir A. The estimated cost was $1,765,734.00.
As growth increased and heavy watering demands grew during drought years, the District’s need for New Reservoir A became necessary. In January 2008, the District contacted the U.S. Forest Service about building the reservoir on U.S. Forest Service property.
After many meetings, plan revisions, and document revisions by District personnel, J-U-B Engineers, and U.S. Forest Service personnel, the District received a decision memo from the U.S. Forest Service on June 12, 2009, allowing the District to build New Reservoir A.
